Friday night we gathered to celebrate Oliver Lee, otherwise known around here as my little honey bun, Ollie boy, buddy boy and sweet boy just to name a few. Three years ago, this guy came into the world and our lives haven’t been the same since. To celebrate his birth, is to celebrate 1,095 days that my heart has felt like it could explode, it’s to celebrate all of the milestones that he has conquered, every laugh & giggle, every tear & cuddle, every word spoken and sang, every step, every jump, every lap around the kitchen table.
You can’t be miserable when he’s around - this kid is pure J O Y!!!! His belly laughs are the best, he makes the silliest faces, has some crazy dance moves and hasn’t met a car that he doesn’t like. He is busy from sun up to sun down, often leaving a trail of mess in his wake, but this just shows all of the life this boy is eager to live. He plays hard, he loves hard, he wants to learn everything and is the best little helper. From baking with Aunt Julia to unloading the groceries with Aunt Ta-ta (Jessica), there really isn’t anything that he can’t do. He took to potty training like a champ, riding his bike at two years old was no big deal and he can’t resist a “big jump”. Uncle Jaysen is his bike buddy and Uncle Joe is the chaser. He loves to greet Pop when he comes home from work.
Celebrating him on Friday night was such a gift to each of us around the table. He absolutely adored every bit of his night. From greeting each guest as they arrived, to being overcome with joy and wonder at every birthday present, Oliver Lee exuded pure happiness. We just could not get over how much he enjoyed everything. What a sweetheart!!
He opened each gift like he had years of experience. We were reminiscing about his second birthday where he was in a high chair and needed help opening his presents. Not this year! He has grown so much in the past year, I can’t even imagine how much he’ll accomplish this next year. I don’t want to rush it though, I’m more than content taking each day as it comes and soaking up every bit of this sweet, sweet boy!
His party wasn’t themed and it was pretty pieced together with random birthday banners that we had from previous years and a new banner with construction trucks (because he’s completely into them), I carried that idea onto his cake with trucks (that he washed earlier in the day) and when he and I were talking about what he wanted for his cake, he about lost his mind when I mentioned sprinkles!! So that was a no brainer. I am a total fan of beautifully executed parties with a common theme that carries throughout, but I’m also learning how to be a total fan of using what I have and focusing more on the person to be celebrated than the paper goods to be celebrated with.
I don’t think that he could have been any happier with his party. The joy and gratitude that he showed is going to follow me through many days to come. Every day is a celebration of Oliver Lee, this one was just extra special and included a few more of the people that we love.
Happy Birthday Oliver Lee!!! I can’t wait to celebrate the next 365 days with you!!!! Honey loves you to pieces!!!!!
